Evil Geniuses Shutting Down After 25 Years in Esports

Evil Geniuses is done. The organization will shut down on November 2, 2026. After more than 25 years in esports, one of the most recognizable names in competitive gaming is calling it quits.

The reason? Money. Sponsorships dried up. Costs kept climbing. The math stopped working.

EG has been around since the early days. They've fielded teams across nearly every major title. Dota 2. Counter-Strike. League of Legends. Fighting games. You name it, EG probably competed in it at some point.

The organization won The International in 2015. That Dota 2 championship remains one of the biggest moments in North American esports history. The roster back then was legendary.

But legacy doesn't pay the bills. The esports industry has been bleeding money for years. Teams overspent. Sponsors pulled back. EG isn't the first org to fold. They won't be the last.

For players currently signed, the clock is ticking. November 2 is the deadline. That's not much time to find new homes.

Twenty-five years is a long run. EG outlasted most of its competitors. But even giants fall eventually.
