LYON Withdraws from Valorant After Failing to Secure Partner Status

Another one gone. LYON has pulled out of Valorant.

The Mexican organization couldn't secure Partner Status for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. Without that partnership, there's no clear path forward. So they walked.

The Partner System Claims Another Org

Riot's franchise model creates winners and losers. If you're in, you're set. If you're out, you're scrambling for scraps in Challengers with no guarantee of ever making it up.

LYON isn't the first org to make this call. They won't be the last.

The economics don't work for teams stuck outside the partner ecosystem. Travel costs. Player salaries. Staff. All of that adds up fast when there's no revenue share or guaranteed spots.

What This Means for Latin American Valorant

LYON was a known name in the region. Their exit leaves a gap. Talented players need new homes. Fans lose a team to root for.

Some other org might step up. But these departures keep piling up. At some point, you have to ask if the system is sustainable for anyone outside the top tier.

The Bigger Picture

Franchising was supposed to bring stability. For some, it did. For others, it just made the cliff steeper.

LYON did the math and decided it wasn't worth it. Hard to blame them.
