s1mple Banned by Ukrainian Esports Federation for Playing with Russians

One of the greatest Counter-Strike players ever just got banned. The Ukrainian Esports Federation added Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev to their ban list on June 19.

The reason? He played in official matches with Russian players.

What We Know

The ban lasts one year. It comes from Ukraine's Esports Federation, not Valve or any tournament organizer. The federation has rules against Ukrainian players competing alongside Russians.

s1mple is Ukrainian. He's widely considered one of the best CS players of all time. He spent years dominating with Natus Vincere before stepping back from competitive play.

The Reaction

The ban sparked outrage across the CS2 community. Fans and players alike have debated whether this was the right call.

Some support the federation's stance. Others say it punishes a player for simply competing in his game.

What This Means

This ban only affects Ukrainian federation events. It doesn't stop s1mple from playing in international tournaments run by ESL, BLAST, or PGL.

But it's a clear message. Ukraine's esports scene is drawing hard lines during wartime.

s1mple hasn't been a full-time pro for a while now. Still, this ban closes doors if he ever wanted to return through Ukrainian competitions.

The CS2 world will keep watching. This story isn't over.
